History
Rosemont Plantation is an approximately 3,500 acre tract on the Oconee River in Treutlen County, Georgia purchased by the Rood Family in 2006.
Rocky bluffs descend to the broad floodplain of the Oconee River, which are at elevations of about 130 feet above sea level. Much of the property is heavily forested, but there are several agricultural fields and some food plots as well as areas under active timber management.
Rosemont Plantation was founded in 1807 when brother George Michael Troup and Robert L. Troup began acquiring land on or near the Oconnee River. George Michael Troup dedicated his life to public serve as he served as a state legislator, US congressman, US senator and Georgia governor. He died in 1856 and was buried at Rosemont Plantation with his brother Robert.
Rosemont Plantation is the Rood Family's personal retreat, hunting preserve and cattle farm.
Rosemont Plantation Grassfed Beef
At Rosemont, we raise a variety of cattle. Each year, we produce grass-fed, pasteurized, organic beef without using any antibiotics, hormones or pesticides. At Rosemont, humanly we raise angus ultra black and brangus cattle. Our cattle are rotated on fresh pastures with clean drinking water. Dung beetles eliminate the need for insecticides and worming medication. Our calves are weaned with fences reducing the mothers stress. We raise several select brangus and ultra black bulls for sale. The remaining steers are grown out and sold to individuals for their own consumption or to a processor for resale as grass fed beef. We are proud of our herd quality and the ranching practices we follow.
Rosemont Plantation Honey
Our bees are raised naturally at out plantation. There is several thousand acres on the plantation which is operated insecticide free. The bees feed on nectar from a variety of wild plants. There are however, a large number of Black Tupelo trees growing in the swamps along the Oconee River. This gives the honey a dark color and strong flavor.
